Durian:
The King of Fruits!

Durian fruit

Durian, to many people, is an amazing fruit, though, to many others, it is completely nasty and repulsive!

Durian's aroma, to those that appreciate it, is wonderful and intoxicating. To others, it smells like horid gas and some people prefer sprinting for the nearest exit and the fresh air beyond! Once their gag reflex subsides, they can breathe again! Rumor has it that sewer workers condition themselves by breathing the stench of durian, so the sewage doesn't smell so bad! Some people would prefer skunk spray to being exposed to durian! While pig and chicken poop may rank very high in most horid, nausiating odors, some would rank durian higher! In Thailand, where it grows, durian is banned from public transportation and many hotels! Some may suggest that durian should be sunk to the bottom of a sewage pit to help cover the smell. Others would suggest that the durian would ruin a perfectly good sewage pit! Is it any wonder the durian's nickname is "stinky fruit"?

Question: Why don't flies eat durian? Answer: Even flies have their standards!!!

The best durian can be an exotic, luxurious, magical, pudding-like ecstasy! Some even call it orgasmic! Yet, to others, even the best durian should be burned 20 miles from any humans... down wind!

The fruit looks like a prehistoric weapon. The barbs, or spikes, which cover the fruit, can easily cut or scrape the skin, so handling the fruit requires care. The fruit can grow to be quite heavy (over five pounds) and come from trees that can grow to 100 feet or more, depending on the species. Because of the weight of the fruit, the sharp spikes, and the height that they grow, a falling fruit can easily injure an unsuspecting passer-by and has even been rumoured to kill people!

Some fans of durian overeat the luscious fruit. See this page for a look at a complication of durian over consumption: Durian Head
